Things Outside Yunnan - Taiwan's historical structures in their new life
Since ancient times, Taiwan has been a borderland of Han Chinese culture, and its history is also the interweaving of immigration and colonial years. Different cultures which have entered successively have repeated the process of conflict, substitution, and integration. Some have become the element of contemporary culture, some have left only remains for remembering, and some have even disappeared.
Among them, there are relatively distinct ones such as the structures of the Japanese rule period and the community culture of military dependents' villages (眷村). The former are products of heterogeneous culture which have exoticism, and the latter is formed by collecting the Han Chinese cultures of multiple regions in a short period of time due to the war.
As the legacies of era, such things are gradually faded away. However, even for a person, it is better to remember the way he or she has taken. Therefore, instead of just letting them to be forgotten or simply to be remembered, it is better to give them a new life while preserving them in a faithful way.
Therefore, the thinking of developing cultural and creative industries on the basis of historical structures has been widely accepted and practiced in recent years. Although it is not easy even for a person to find a new direction on the old foundation, it should be still worth to try and make efforts.
